Montel V. Porter vs. Matt Hardy (Non-title).
Porter cut a promo pre-match again claiming he's better
than us. Right. Posers make claims like that, guy. He even
goes so far as to put himself on a par with the NFL's Dallas
Cowboys. The fans in Big D realize the man is a walking
parody of Cowboys star Terrell Owens, so they give him some
serious heat. Rick the Sign Guy has been here "all
week". Creative should talk to him about some ideas.
Nah, that's too easy. Just like on Raw, a Hardy's in the
curtain jerker, and it's your match of the night. Based
on this match, we're likely to see these two hook it up
again in 16 days at the Great American Bash, this time with
the US title on the line. Porter's running kicks apparently
are derived from Japan's Masahiro Chono. I believe it. Porter
does do his homework. He ate two Side Effects, but blocked
the Twist of Fate. He hoisted Hardy on his shoulders, then
dropped Matt behind him. Tried it a 2nd time and Matt hit
the Twist out of nowhere to end it. Winner: Matt Hardy.
Chris Masters vs. Jimmy Wang Yang. Never
a good idea to put a cruiserweight in against someone like
Masters. Yang had his moments, but a crossbody attempt was
caught and converted into the Masterlock. Ballgame. Winner:
Chris Masters..
Great Khali comes out after with Runjin Singh. Masters decides
discretion is the better part of valor and bails, leaving
Yang to suffer further with a tree slam. Singh & Khali
issue an open challenge for the Bash.
Teddy Long & Kristal are having issues over the wedding.
Edge shows up, but isn't willing to wrestle, so Teddy offers
a compromise in the form of hosting Cutting Edge tonight
with a mystery guest. Teddy & Kristal leave Vicki Guerrero
in the office with Edge.
The Major Brothers vs. Jeremy Young & Mike Fox.
The lone tag team match of the week, and it's a rent-a-jobber
special. Winners: The Major Brothers..
Ric Flair vs. Finlay. They say these two
have never fought before. I'm not so sure about that. JBL
yaks about ref Charles Robinson's long time friendship with
Flair. Foreshadowing something, perhaps? Very good match,
not quite as good as Hardy-Porter, and tainted by the lame
finish. Finlay worked on the legs, employing Flair's strategy,
and applied the Celtic Knot (Indian Deathlock). Flair made
the ropes, and would soon apply the figure four. As was
the case vs. Carlito last week, Flair released the hold
just before Finlay could force a rope break. Hornswoggle
pops up and enters, only to be greeted with a chop. 'Swoggle
rolls out and detains Robinson long enough for Finlay to
use the shillelagh, then reapply the Celtic Knot. Flair
taps out quickly. This isn't over. Winner: Finlay.
Khali assaults a tech aide. Lame. Victoria accuses Torrie
Wilson of stealing her spotlight on Raw, and now they're
both on Smackdown, so she doesn't want it to happen again.
A catfight breaks out. Vic has had more talk time in the
last two weeks than she's had in two years. Vidpack airs
promoting the return of Rey Mysterio, similar to Triple
H returning to Raw.
Kenny Dykstra vs. Chuck Palumbo. Smackdown
debut for the former Spirit Squad captain, and Palumbo is
returning to Smackdown for the first time in 3 years. Seems
Uncreative didn't have anything for him other than squashing
rent-a-jobbers on Heat over on the Raw brand, so Chuck's
back in the land of blue & white. Cole & JBL bring
up Palumbo's 4 tag title runs (2 WCW, 2 WWE) and his love
of motorcycles. Pretty even match, but how do you follow
two veterans like Flair & Finlay? Palumbo's Full Throttle
finisher is now a swinging sideslam instead of a shoulder-high
stunner. Huh? Dykstra didn't pay any attention to MVP earlier,
as his pre-match promo put him in a hole he didn't completely
dig his way out of. Winner: Chuck Palumbo.
Eugene vs. Deuce (w/Cherry & Domino).They
confirm that Domino broke his nose last week vs. Cryme Tyme.
Eugene finds Cherry's shiny roller skates to be a distraction,
such that Deuce gets an early advantage on the man-child.
Eugene hulks up, and after the two knock heads, knocking
Eugene to the floor, Khali & Singh return. Deuce is
chopped down. Domino tosses Eugene back in, and Eugene gets
another tree slam.Winner: None. No Contest due to Khali
attacking both men.
Cutting Edge: Edge is caught a little off-guard,
but then freaks out when Kane's pyro & music hit. He
tries sucking up to Big Red, noting that it's been nearly
10 years since Kane's debut. He mentions "See No Evil",
which was really only a success in terms of DVD sales. Kane
tells Edge, "I don't like you", and punches him
out of the ring. Naturally, the cowardly champion doesn't
want anything further to do with Kane, and tells him so,
but Long returns and reveals that he anticipated Edge's
actions, so he arranged for Kane to be the guest, as Kane
is the next challenger for the World title at the Bash.
