Montel V. Porter & Mike Mizanin vs. Matt Hardy
& Chris Benoit. Odd opening as they alternated
team members in terms of entrance. MVP, Benoit, Miz, &
Hardy were introduced in that order. JBL ragged on Miz but
conceded that Miz has improved in recent weeks. Very good
opener. Inasmuch as Porter has gotten a considerable rub
from working with Benoit, one of his heroes, the last couple
of months, Miz is a few steps away from consideration for
most improved. He just has to remain consistent, especially
with the draft 10 days away. They got heat on Hardy for
a good part of the match, working on the neck. Hot tag to
Benoit, but the German suplexes were missing this time.
Benoit went for the Sharpshooter on Miz while Hardy eliminated
Porter from the match with a suicide dive. Miz avoided the
Sharpshooter, but couldn't get away from the Crossface and
tapped almost immediately. Winners: Matt Hardy & Chris
Benoit..
Michelle McCool vs. Jillian Hall.Rubber
match between these two. Each has won one, with Michelle
winning the last bout a couple of weeks back. Jillian left
her headset mic backstage, which doesn't stop her from making
like Melina and screaming (which Michael Cole thought was
an attempt at singing a capella) during the match. Jillian
hit a cartwheel legdrop for 2. Ashley Massaro came down,
and that took Jillian's focus away from her opponent. Big
mistake, as Hall walked into a spinning backbreaker from
Michelle and was pinned. Winner: Michelle McCool.
Little Boogeyman (w/Boogeyman) vs. Hornswoggle.
This is the first midget match on Smackdown since the demise
of the "Juniors Division" a year ago. 'Swoggle
came out from under the ring, as usual. Off comes the jacket
and the derby. Little Boogey spits some worms into the hat.
Ewww, gross. Not much to this one because of the gimmicks
involved. Finlay was also under the ring and attacked Little
Boogey. 'Swoggle dove on top of Big Boogey on the floor,
allowing Finlay to KO Little Boogey with the shillelagh
behind the ref's back. 'Swoggle goes up top and hits a "tadpole
splash". Winner: Hornswoggle.
Mark Henry vs. Kane. Pretty even match
on paper. Henry got an early advantage, withstanding a series
of right hand punches from Kane. Cole talked about no one
having previously dominated Kane. I guess Great Khali suddenly
doesn't count. Please. They spilled to the floor. Kane tried
a move off the apron, but Henry caught him in a bear hug
and rammed him into the post. Kane went down and was counted
out. After the announcement was made of Henry winning, Kane
sat up, and Henry fled. They'll meet again in a lumberjack
match on Sunday. Winner: Mark Henry via countout.
Kristal interviews Edge, who claims not to be intimidated
by Batista, his guest on Cutting Edge tonight. Riiiiiiight.
Max Bretos makes his Smackdown debut and interviews Deuce
& Domino & Cherry. He asks about the draft, and
Domino acts like a dunce and thinks it's the military draft.
Wrong! Bretos speculates that maybe the tag champs could
be split up. Deuce is upset by all this and wants to pick
a fight with Bretos. Domino finds his brains and gets Deuce
& Cherry out of there before things get out of hand.
Deuce & Domino vs. William Regal & Dave
Taylor vs. Brian Kendrick & Paul London (WWE tag titles).
As Bretos noted, this was all because of Domino's
actions last week in the match between the two challenging
teams. Would've been the best match on the show except for
the opener. Regal & Domino started. Cole & JBL emphasized
repeatedly that the champs could lose the titles without
being in the decision, which meant of course that they would
be involved at the end after all. Finish saw London &
Domino legal. Kendrick took out the British bruisers with
a plancha. Cherry scooped the legs out from under London
on the top rope, and Domino simply pulled London into position
for the pin.Winners: Deuce & Domino.
Teddy Long is giving Vicki Guerrero credit for the lumberjack
match. Kristal is upset that she might be separated from
Teddy via the draft, but Long says he's willing to sacrifice
his job to be with his lady. Vicki takes charge for the
rest of the night, but there isn't much left
Cutting Edge: Batista is the guest, but
the by-play between these two was just flat out silly. Back
and forth they went, a la Bugs & Daffy. Batista wishes
Edge good luck at the PPV, but Edge says he doesn't need
it. It ends when Batista drops Edge with a punch and stands
over him. Underwhelming. |
