No opening theme, and Edge makes his way out to address the crowd. Same old tired blather. Teddy Long comes out and sets up the main event, a fatal 4-way among Kane, Finlay, Mark Henry, and Batista, with the winner advancing to a steel cage match vs. Edge at One Night Stand. Holla.

Brian Kendrick & Paul London vs. William Regal & Dave Taylor. Once upon a time, the British team challenged London & Kendrick for the tag titles, but could only manage a non-title win. The current champs, Deuce & Domino, are out to watch from the safety of their car. Nice ride. Very good opener, marred by an overbooked finish. Domino ran down and pushed London off the top rope, but made the mistake of hanging around on the apron, talking trash to London, long enough for Charles Robinson to see him.Winners: Brian Kendrick & Paul London via DQ. As soon as the DQ was announced, Taylor went after Domino, and soon all 6 men were brawling on the floor. I smell a triple threat title match.

Matt Hardy vs. Mike Mizanin. As MVP has matured as a performer in recent months, so has Mizanin. Cole takes note of Miz's new, aggressive approach. Following the lead of the US champion, who faced Hardy last week, Miz targets Matt's neck and gets heat on Hardy for several minutes, collecting quite a few near falls. However, Hardy will not fold. Miz ends up with a bloody nose somehow. Hardy hits the Side Effect for 2, but Miz doesn't sell the Twist of Fate correctly, as it comes off as an ordinary neckbreaker, though called the Twist by Cole. That fatal move was Miz's biggest blunder of the match. Winner: Matt Hardy.

In response to Timbaland and last week's appearance by Ozzy Osbourne, Jillian Hall comes out to perform her new "song", "Jillatonic". I hit the mute button after the first couple of notes. Boogeyman comes out. Hall, remembering what happened last year, tries to avoid the nightmare man, but Michelle McCool shows up and throws Hall into the ring. Little Boogey makes an appearance, and Jillian gets a worm bath.

MVP holds court for his first promo since winning the US title. Standard blather. He calls out Chris Benoit and practically forces Benoit into a handshake. However, Porter takes it too far, and demands that Benoit raise his hand. Benoit instead hits the rolling Germans, and chops Porter out of the ring. If he leaves it at just a handshake and a show of respect between the two, fine. However, the prima donna made a tactical error.

It's official. Vicki Guerrero is Teddy Long's new assistant. Now, the real drama begins. The question I have is what could happen if Vicki is left to go it alone, being the first female executive on either show since Stephanie McMahon (July 2002-October 2003). In a word, chaos.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (non-title). These two met two weeks ago, but the match was edited off at the last minute for time constraints. Not this time. Guerrero gets heat on Yang's knee, hoping to ground "Smackdown's resident redneck". I think Jamie Noble might have something to say about that. Anyway, Guerrero goes for the 3 Amigos, but only gets off two of them before Yang blocks the trifecta. Guerrero sets up for the frogsplash, but Yang cuts that off. Guerrero tries a sunset bomb, but Yang turns that into a huracanrana for the pinfall. Nice to see him on the giving end of one of those for a change, after all the times he landed on his head (as Akio) when Rey Mysterio hit the same move on him. Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang.

Batista vs. Kane vs. Finlay vs. Mark Henry (#1 contender's fatal 4-way). Edge joins the announcers, but doesn't really tell us anything new. Nothing special to the main event, either, despite Cole's attempts to try to sell the idea that either of the heels might have a chance vs. Edge. Edge vs. Finlay, IMPO, is something they might still do, based on what happened tonight. Finlay used the shillelagh on Batista & Henry. Batista speared everyone but the ref, then hit the Batista Bomb on Finlay. He reacted like his hamstring was tweaked anew, a point raised by Edge. Batista vs. Edge in the cage at One Night Stand. Winner: Batista.
