We're plausibly live from Corpus Christi, Texas. It's going to be a while, methinks, before ECW is legitimately live again.CM Punk is out to start the show proper. He's invoking his rematch clause in his contract, and wants Chavo Guerrero tonight. The champ comes out, but defers the title match to No Way Out. Instead, the two will battle in an extreme rules Gulf of Mexico match. The winner has to throw his opponent into the water. It's that simple, but remember, Chavo does have backup lurking in the shadows.
Match 1: Victoria & Layla El (w/Lena Yada) vs. Kelly Kelly & Michelle McCool Last night, Victoria & Kelly were on opposite sides of a tag match on Raw, ending with Vic being pinned by Mickie James. Tonight, the two have different partners, but Vic has the numbers advantage with the rookie Lena in the mix, and Lena's interference pays dividends. Michelle hit a chick kick from her knees, and that would be enough to end it, but she tags out to Kelly, who promptly hits a crossbody block for 2. She runs the ropes, but Lena trips her up behind the back of ref Mike Posey. Lena & Layla celebrate, but Michelle goes after Layla, leaving Kelly to take the Widow's Peak for the 2nd week in a row as Vic gains a measure of revenge for last night. Winners: Victoria & Layla El. We learn that Shel Benjamin & Kane are being rematched on tonight's card after Benjamin deliberately took a countout loss last week.
Match 2: John Morrison (w/Mike Mizanin) vs. Tommy Dreamer (w/Colin Delaney) The good news is that Delaney doesn't have to wrestle tonight. The bad news is that he's still a sitting duck for Miz, who's dressed in street clothes. Sure enough, the "Real World" alumnus does get involved, despite Delaney's best efforts (and that's putting it mildly) to cut him off. Morrison missed a corkscrew moonsault, then took a spin bump after a Dreamer clothesline. Dreamer set up Morrison on the tree of woe, but that's when Miz decided to get involved. Dreamer punched out Miz. Delaney engaged Miz on the apron, only to get shoved off. Dreamer hit a baseball slide dropkick to get rid of Miz, but left himself open for Morrison's corkscrew neckbreaker. Winner: John Morrison. "Earlier today", Joey Styles sat down with Stevie Richards, who hasn't been seen since October, when he was feuding with Kevin Thorn. Footage is shown of Richards initially injuring his throat in a match in Buffalo involving Sandman & Terry Funk in May of 1997. Richards has had surgery done 9 different times in 10 years, the most recent being last October. He returns to action next week to begin his latest comeback.
Match 3: Kofi Kingston vs. James Curtis Protracted squash. Curtis didn't fare any better in slowing down the Jamaican Express, if you will. Kingston did the running Thesz press in the corner, then flipped back onto his feet only to get kick back toward center ring by Curtis, who ran right into the front enziguri. I wonder how you say "good-bye" in Jamaican? Hoot, mon! Winner: Kofi Kingston. I stand corrected. Kane & Benjamin do not meet tonight. I am not sure when the rematch will be, either on Smackdown this Friday or no later than No Way Out. Joey & Tazz run down the PPV card.
Match 4: Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk (non-title)(extreme rules Gulf of Mexico match) If I'm Punk, I'd be watching for Edge and the Edgeheads lurking in the shadows. Just saying. Although Armando Estrada said that the combatants would be "dressed as you are", Chavo decided to change out of his dress shirt and into a No Way Out t-shirt. The action spills out of the ring quickly, and right before the break, they're outside the arena. A passing car is forced to stop, and Chavo throws Punk onto the hood of the car, smashing the windshield. A 2nd vehicle ends up being used as well. Two fishermen clear out and Chavo grabs a cooler. He throws it and hits Punk in the left arm. He moves the former champion toward the Gulf and decides to suplex him in. However, after two tries, Punk counters and hits the Go To Sleep, the impact of which sends Chavo out for a swim in the Gulf. Winner: CM Punk. Worth noting is that after the commercial, Joey & Tazz couldn't call the action any longer, and Chavo's taunts basically provided the "commentary" for the rest of the match.
