We open with a recap of the CM Punk-MVP match from 12/18, and the ECW debut of Chavo Guerrero. Now, the scene shifts to tonight's card in Richmond, Va., and, well, whaddya know? We have an Armando Estrada sighting! The GM has been MIA for nearly 2 months for no explanation, and, POOF! Here he is, introducing Chavo.

The former Cruiserweight & tag champ starts off by explaining away his absence, having been injured in an "I Quit" match vs. Rey Mysterio. He sat home, watching ECW, and didn't like the implication that Punk was the "future" of the WWE, a label applied to others like John Morrison and Elijah Burke. Enter the champion, who cuts an intense promo of his own. What results is Estrada putting them in a non-title main event. If Chavo wins, he gets a title match, presumably no later than the Royal Rumble.

Match 1: John Morrison, Mike MIzanin, & Layla El vs. Kelly Kelly, Shannon Moore, & Jimmy Wang Yang 6-person mixed tag fuses two current feuds together. The girls start, and as usual, it isn't pretty. Kelly hits a lariat and gets a 2. However, after Layla tags in Morrison, the women are hardly heard from again. Moore becomes the face in peril for much of the match, setting up a hot tag to Yang, who cleans house on the tag champions. Layla starts pounding weak punches on the back of Yang. He turns around, surveys what is in front of him, and kisses Layla. Normally, I think she'd dig that. Kelly spears Layla down and they begin fighting on the floor. Moore clears out Morrison. Yang reverses a corner whip and sends Miz to the turnbuckle, then hits the moonsault. Winners: Kelly Kelly, Shannon Moore, & Jimmy Wang Yang.

Post-match, Joey Styles reveals that the champs will face Yang & Moore in a 15:00 of Fame mini-iron man match next week. The team with the most falls in 15:00 will win the titles.

Match 2: Big Daddy V (w/Matt Striker) vs. Colin Delaney As was the case in Delaney's debut 2 weeks ago, Tazz does the intros and a pre-match interview with Delaney. Facially, he does resemble Sean Waltman a little bit, circa 1993. Otherwise, this is a total squash, as Delaney again gets no offense in at all. BDV just destroys him. Ghetto drop, followed by an elbow drop, and Delaney will need aid leaving the ring. Winner: Big Daddy V.

Match 3: Shelton Benjamin vs. James Curtis It should be worth noting that Curtis, pka KC James, is currently the Ohio Valey Wrestling TV champion. Good thing, then, that he didn't bring the title with him to Richmond to face Benjamin, himself a graduate of OVW. Not quite the total squash of the last match, as Curtis does get a modicum of offense in, but Benjamin continues to roll on, finishing off Curtis with the inverted bulldog-DDT combo. Winner: Shelton Benjamin.

The ECW debut of Chavo Guerrero is replayed again, just to remind us of the main event.

Raw Rebound: Ric Flair vs. Triple H from last night. William Regal screws the Cerebral Assassin out of participating in the Royal Rumble match. Flair wins again, but not the way he would've preferred. A booking travesty that only Vince McMahon could've envisioned.

Match 4: CM Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero (non-title) 1st meeting between champion and potential challenger. Early on in the match, Punk tweaks his left knee, but it isn't until after a commercial break that Guerrero finally gets around to taking advantage. He applies the El Paso Lasso, which morphs into Melina's California Dream submission once Chavo rears back and adds a neck vise & perfect bridge. However, he can't make the champion tap out. Punk inevitably comes back with a flurry, but Chavo comes back and tries the 3 Amigos. He gets 2 of the 3 before Punk blocks the 3rd and tries the Go To Sleep, but, still selling the left knee, can't put enough weight on it to hit it, and Chavo squirms out. They crash to the floor, and it's a race to get back into the ring to beat ref Scott Armstrong's 10 count. Punk dives toward the ring at 7, and at 9 kicks Chavo away, creating enough distance to prevent Guerrero from getting back in the ring in time. Winner: CM Punk via countout.

Guerrero may not have won a title shot tonight, but this is far from over.
