Detailed Results
We open with Sheamus, who cuts a scathing promo, characterizing American fans as spoiled brats. Sort of like, in the champions's opinion, Randy Orton. The GM sends for a throne so Sheamus can observer the action, evaluate the talent, and decide for himself who he'll face at Night of Champions, starting with tonight's 1st match:

1. Edge vs. R-Truth.

Michael Cole again has issues with Truth's rap entrance. Cole needs to get a life. Even match, but way too short. Truth telegraphed a springboard plancha a wee bit too early, enabling Edge to move out of the way. Edge went for a spear, but Truth ducked. Truth missed an axe kick, so Edge took just 2 steps to tackle Truth (can't really call it a true spear) to end it. Winner: Edge.

Post-match, Edge cut a promo on Sheamus, claiming the champ hasn't beaten anyone until he beats the Rated R Superstar. Yeah, the ego's intact.

Sneak peek of Smackdown's Cody Rhodes guest-starring on SyFy's "Warehouse 13" tomorrow night before NXT.

2. Great Khali (w/Runjin Singh) vs. Chris Jericho.

Khali was still selling the gang ambush at the hands of Nexus from 2 weeks ago, which knocked him out of Summerslam. Jericho targeted the injured knee, and managed with weather the storm of Khali's offense. Khali missed a boot in the corner. Jericho with a chop block to the injured knee, followed by the Walls. Here's something you don't often see. A giant such as Khali tapping out. Winner: Chris Jericho.

Post-match, Jericho cut a promo on Sheamus. Khali recovered and chopped Jericho out of the ring.

After a recap of Miz's interference in last week's Daniel Bryan-Michael Tarver match, John Cena is interviewed. Cena vows to shut Miz up with the Attitude Adjustment.

Jillian Hall is butchering Eminem's "Not Afraid". Good thing the Divas champ is on her way to the ring....

3. Divas title: Melina vs. Jillian Hall.

Jillian was Divas champ for all of 2 minutes last year, but puts up a better than expected fight vs. Melina, who, oh by the way, beat Jillian for the title last July. Middle rope legdrop goes nowhere, and Melina capitalizes with the Last Call powerbomb. Good night! Winner: Melina.

Team LayCool appeared on the TitanTron and announced that they would have an offer for Melina next week on the 900th episode of Raw.

Miz refuses to accept the fact that Team WWE was better off without him at Summerslam. He claims he'll beat John Cena tonight.

Nexus comes out to the stage, at the request of the GM, who was impressed with them last week, such that Nexus can now pursue championships. If I'm the Hart Dynasty, Miz, or Sheamus, I'd start worrying. Wade Barrett makes it official by calling off the truce between Sheamus & Nexus.

4. Non-title: The Miz vs. John Cena.

If Miz or the creative morons had any sense, Miz would be defending the US title. They continue to stall on picking a challenger, so we keep getting non-title matches. Miz & Cena had a great series of bouts last year, but Miz is even more of a heel now, his ego getting in the way of his brains. He does take it to Cena, and dominates for much of the match. Miz went for one wraparound corner lariat too many, and Cena began the offense. Cena went for the Attitude Adjustment, but Miz grabbed the ropes and dropped to the floor. Daniel Bryan came down to collect a receipt for last week, resulting in Cena being DQd. Anything to avoid Miz losing. Blah. Winner: The Miz via DQ.

5. Vladimir Kozlov & Santino Marella vs. Jimmy & Jey Uso (w/Tamina).

2 weeks ago, Tamina began hitting on Santino, but you knew this was to be the end result. Unfortunately, the Uso Twins are already on the downward slope. Santino is the face in peril, but then Kozlov gets the hot tag, and cleans house. Santino clears out Jimmy, leaving Jey with Kozlov. Jey tries a superkick, after hitting one on Santino, but Kozlov blocks and hits the Iron Curtain. Winners: Vladimir Kozlov & Santino Marella.

Post-match, Tamina allows Santino to recover, then blows him a kiss, spitball style.

6. Randy Orton vs. John Morrison vs. Ted DiBiase (w/Maryse).

Sheamus leaves his throne, and as we'd learn after the match, he's made his pick. Meanwhile, the three in the ring are jockeying for position, unaware of Sheamus' decision. Morrison's Flying Chuck has been renamed the Flash Kick. He hit one off the apron to the floor on DiBiase, but when he tried the more conventional version off the ropes on Orton, Randy ducked and hit the hanging DDT on DiBiase. Morrison came flying off the top, right into an RKO. Ballgame. Winner: Randy Orton.

Post-match, DiBiase ate an RKO just for good measure.

Sheamus is in the ring, and speaks on opportunity. Citing it as the reason he became champion last December, Sheamus has decided to do the same for another man who hasn't earned an opportunity yet. Zack Ryder.

7. WWE title: Sheamus vs. Zack Ryder.

The promo took longer than the match, actually. Ryder, who challenged Christian for the ECW title late last year, was just fodder. One Brogue kick is all Sheamus needs. Winner: Sheamus.

Post-match, Sheamus claims he doesn't have to defend the title for 30 days. While that's technically true from a legal perspective, there's also the matter of Wade Barrett, who is owed a title opportunity after winning season 1 of NXT. Barrett, per the GM, will be one of 5 challengers at Night of Champions, with the others being the predictable suspects. Jericho. Edge. Orton. Cena. Those 4 and the champ surround Barrett, to give him a taste of his own medicine, before Sheamus bum-rushes him out of the ring. Jericho hits the Code Breaker on Sheamus. Edge spears Jericho. Cena with an Attitude Adjustment to Edge. Orton RKO's Cena. End of show.
