WOIO-TV CBS-19 interviewed "The Franchise" Shane Douglas in Cleveland to promote the upcoming screening of "Pro Wrestlers Vs. Zombies" at the Captiol Theatre on March 31st. Wrestlers in the film include Douglas, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Kurt Angle and Matt Hardy.
In the movie, Shane's character "The Franchise" sees his girlfriend doing something with another wrestler before a match, and in order to get that wrestler back, he intentionally kills him during a match.
He mentions Roddy Piper, and says that he is still to this day learning from him. Shane was asked if he's worried about his shape now as compared to his shaper 20 years ago. Shane said he isn't worried about that because its expected as wrestlers age. He thinks that its a plus for fans because they will see stars they used to watch return to the screen in some form.
Shane mentions that wrestling today is heartbreaking because it is too scripted robbing talents of truly being themselves and giving 100% in the ring. He mentions that in his day, wrestlers gave their best performance because every day because they feared that if they did not, they'd get fired. He juxtaposed that with wrestlers of today who feel that they are just following a script, and are more or less guaranteed their spot if they do so.
Shane gives props to Kevin Steen and AJ Styles during the interview as well.
Douglas says that he is working on something that will change the industry. He said he almost did it with ECW, had it not be for Paul Heyman not being "quite the business man he should have been."
He continued by saying he doesn't plan to compete with Vince McMahon, but rather he plans to appeal to a niche of fans who really love wrestling, and not entertainment.
