Episode 5: That Miserable Feeling
We open in Team Faber’s locker room as they is celebrate Al Iaquinta’s win over Myles Jury. Faber is happy to have regained control of the fight picks while Cruz says it sucks to lose to Faber in anything. Jeremy Larson is lurking in the corner of the locker room claiming Faber under estimates him. Cruz, in front of everyone, asks Sam Sicilia for some inside information on Chisa since they are best friends outside the show. Other Team Cruz members suggest that Sicilia might divulge information on Larsen to Chiesa Later, at the house; Chiesa and Sicilia talk about the fight about the questions being asked. Sicilia said he wants to be a great fighter but he wants to be a good person too and won’t reveal anything for anyone.
Team Cruz Training Session:
Dominick, again, asks Sicilia for the inside dirt on Chiesa and specifically wants to know what submissions he is good at. Sicilia fumbles over his words looking for a way out and Dominick cuts him off by saying he is here to make sure his team wins and doesn’t care about keeping friends intact. Larsen says he believes that Chiesa’s game plan will be to take him down and work for the submission.
Chris Tickle thinks he has Gout. The on site doctor feels Tickle has symptoms that resemble Gout. Dominick says it’s hard to keep track of things since Tickle complains about everything. The doctor brings Tickle to see Dominck and the champ tells Tickle to either fight or leave the show. Tickle is pissed…again, and says there are some days he can’t even stand up and Dominick reiterates his original statement.
Team Faber Training Session:
Michael Chiesa talks about wrestling since he was 11 years old and after giving college a try, he went into MMA fulltime. Faber says Chiesa has some of the best MMA takedowns he has ever seen and cage control and ground and pound will be his keys to victory.
Team Cruz Training Session #2
Tickle gets taken down in sparing and starts screaming about the pain in his stomach and begins to take off his gloves and headgear. Cruz tells him he needs to learn to fight through the pain and makes him put his gear back on. He spars for one more round and makes a mad dash to the bathroom. Cruz says it’s frustrating because Tickle has the talent to win. Cruz’s reveals that he and Larsen have known each other since they were six years old and that their mothers are friends. Larsen says he got into fights everyday growing up and he is thankful to be here, but he will not touch gloves come fight time.
Wednesday 1:00 pm Chris Tickle meets with a doctor at and the lab results are…Negative… No Gout. Tickle is happy to hear the news.
Weigh-In:
Michael Chiesa – 155.5 lbs
Jeremy Larsen – 154 lbs
Team Faber: Michael Chiesa vs. Team Cruz: Jeremy Larsen
Round 1: Chiesa starts off as the aggressor by throwing a left jab, leg kick and shoots in the takedown but Larsen stuffs it against the cage. Larsen can’t shake him and Chiesa lifts him up high and takes him down. Chiesa jumps right in Larsen’s half guard and reigns down elbows to the head. Larsen scrambles to his feet and they fight against the cage. Chiesa changes levels and has to fight for it, but lifts him up high and slams him again. Larsen gets back to his feet but Chiesa works for a guillotine choke while pushing Larsen against cage. Chiesa throws some risky knees and eventually lands an illegal one that referee, Steve Mazzagatti takes a point away for. Chiesa would have won this round but now they are tied at 8-8. The second round will determine the winner.
Round 2: Jeremy Larsen comes out very aggressive knowing the fight is even. Chiesa shoots for another double leg but can’t secure the takedown and Larsen reverses him against the cage. Chiesa regains control and throws a few knees but to no avail. Larsen switches to gain control against the fence and pushes off of Chiesa to take the center of the cage to entice Chiesa to strike. Chiesa shoots in and works very hard to secure a takedown but he is not doing anything with it. Larsen escapes and catches Chiesa breathing heavy and rocks him with a punch to the mouth. Larsen goes in to see if the finish is in sight but Chiesa regains his composure. Chiesa takes his back and drags him down to the ground and works for the rear naked choke to finish the round.
Winner: Michael Chiesa via judges decision (19-18)
Post fight Interviews: Chiesa dedicates the fight to his Father who recently passed away and also his Mother. Larsen feels he won the second round and he should have either won or it should have gone to a third round.
Urijah Faber picks the next fight and it will be… Chris Tickle vs. Joe Proctor…I can’t wait to see the drama that Tickle will unleash on the show next week.
